2WD Ball Differential Rebuild (QteQ)

TJ's picture

I know we already have tons of "how-to rebuild 2wd diffs" but it is easier for me to tell FPR local drivers to check the site for tutorial rather than telling them, "go to, www.blah-blah-blah.c0m"... if you know what I mean. :)

Tools you need:
-600-1000 grit sand paper (I use 600)
-small flat head screw driver
-2mm lug/lock nut
-1.5mm hex tool
-setup board or flat/even surface
-tweezer
-diff grease (I use AE diff grease)
-x-acto knice
-CA glue
-CA glue accelerator (if you cant wait)
-motor cleaner or rubbing alchohol

Step 1:
Take a picture of the diff to show others your tutorial. Oh my bad, that's my job. :)

Step 2:
Remove C-clip using small flat head screw driver.

Step 3:
Remove bearing.

Step 4:
Remove outer diff hub.

Step 5:
Remove diff plate.

Step 6:
Carefully remove the spur. I use this atomic parts collector when I pull out the spur. Just incase I drop those little balls, I wont have to look for it on the floor.

Step 7:
Then remove the inside plate:

Step 8:
Sand down the pressure plate, Dry or wet is fine. Just make sure to get rid of that wear marks where the diff balls rides on.

When done, it should look like this:

Step 9:
Since we are using kyosho plates and it is not D-shape plates, I would strongly suggest to apply super glue on the hub and pressure plates. Both inside and outside hubs/pressure plates. I used rubber tire CA glue.. this was the only one that I had when I was working on the diff at 2 in the morning. :)

Make sure the pressure plate and hub are flat and even as possible. No gaps inbetween the two parts.

Step 10:
Let it dry or if you can't wait, use accelerator... makes the CA glues dries faster!

Step 11:
Clean the spur and spur ball bearing with a motor cleaner or rubbing alchohol.

Step 12:
Install the inside hub.

Step 13:
Then the spur.

Step 14:
Place the diff balls on your palm and apply grease.

Use tweezer to grab and place the balls into the spur.

Step 15:
Place the outside hub.

Step 16:
Then the c-clip and fine adjust your diff... you're set!

I would like to Thank Brian Stanley aka brianstan for allowing me to build his diff. :D
Next tut, how to build an awd... yeah right! :P That's going to take me days! lol Thank you all for reading.
